The Red clover (Trifolium pratense) is a perennial plant that grows to around 15-50 cm high and origionates from the Butterfly Flowers Family Fabaceae, originally a wild European plant which has spread and flourished around the world.

Red Clover is one of the oldest known herbs in the world and is regularly and widely used in the traditional European alternative medicine. Red clover is a plant with versatile functions and is a rich source of isoflavones (substances which on the molecular structure work alongside human hormones) but also contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, chromium, potassium, and vitamins including Niacin, thiamine and vitamin C.

Properties: Red Clover is known to be antibacterial and have disinfecting properties it is also an adaptogen, immune system boosting, an expectorant and a source of phyto oestrogens which make it very useful for menapausal women to control hot flushes and improve temperment.

To make an infusion: Use 1 teaspoon of Red Clover per cup of boiled water, steep for 10 minutes.
